Both DecongestABoo and I are having cold issues. She's got the runny nose. Last night she had her second round of night terrors that didn't last as long. I've got a sore throat and the pain hit really hard yesterday. There are probably things I could take, but I'd rather not. I can take tylenol and that does nothing. There's no difference in any pain.

Yesterday Alan Alda and co-worker went to the new guys house for whatever and for some reason they got on the subject of work. Like, new guy grew up and most dad's were never home because they were military or airline pilots. That's just the way it was. That's true, a lot of people live that way.

That's not how I grew up. Not how Alan grew up. We grew up with dads working but being home in the evenings and being a part of our lives. I specifically didn't marry a military dude for a reason.

There are men out there that want to be with their families and not be expected to work 6 days a week and then be expected to take calls on their days off or plan at home AFTER they get home from work. You want to do that, do it. But there are more things in life than work. Family isn't a business, being with your family isn't something you have to do, it's something at least some guys want to be part of. He doesn't want to miss out on the kids growing up for a company who doesnt' give a shit about it's employees.

I think the big difference is that Games Workshop is not military. It's RETAIL. A retail company who doesn't pay anything, just as most retail companies, yet expects that these guys will work for shit pay and negativity left and right. Alan made the point once to Al Qaida Clown that they get zero positive's. I know Al Qaida clown took that to mean that Alan wants a pat on the back every time something goes right. SO NOT what Alan meant. What Alan means is praise for something more than 2 times a year. I mean, give me a break. What the hell does it kill any GW higher up to give out positive comments once in a blue moon? So you work your guys, expect that they want to work 12 hour days and give them shit, what do you expect will happen? They have such a high turnover. That is such a shock. Make it clear that you could give a shit less, don't train your guys, which they don't, you're going to have a high turnover.

The biggest beef I have is that time and time again, they stick a guy into a position like manager and then new manager gets no training and then they gun for them. They're big on that. Someone can get into a managerial position and not get the tools he needs to succeed and then of course it's all this guys fault.

GW wants to know why they're not doing all that great, they can look to the people higher up than managers. At school if kids don't do well, they look to the teachers. To me it's the same thing. A lot of your employees don't succeed and are floundering, who's really responsible for that?

I get the impression that they think that these guys are a bunch of whiners. Please. They want to be home with the kids and wife and are working more than they're legally supposed to. Guess what, you're going to have complaints. At PBC, we got some praise, some negativity. It was ok. What we really got was a shit load of training. It was there if we needed it. Some of it wasn't great, but they did a pretty good job and gave us a lot of resources to work with. They didn't expect that their employees would just jump at the chance to work 12 hour days for shit pay. Why? Because they're smart. They live in the real world.

I guess if you don't have small kids and a partner, what else do you have to do besides work? I know Alan doesn't want that empty life.
